Walton Architecture approaches each new project as an opportunity to create an innovative response to our clients’ goals and the project site. Our firm’s work is often noted as being equally unassuming and grand, respectful of the landscape and skillfully blending rugged mountain influences with a clean aesthetic.
Our design process is iterative, and we view listening as a skill of paramount importance to its success. The creative process begins with client dialog and investigation into the aesthetic the client is drawn to. It then follows with site exploration to become familiar with views, topography, sun and other natural features. We then use a series of adjacency diagrams to study flow which progresses into sketches for layout and form. We place emphasis on an initial site meeting in person where we can walk through concepts together within the context of place. From there we have frequent meetings, typically by video call for convenience and efficiency, where we present ideas, receive feedback and then continue to develop our concepts.

Regardless of style, there is a consistent thread in our work of site specificity and indoor-outdoor connection. We strive to create distinct forms with our architecture that are heavily rooted in overall transparency and simple lines, celebrating a fluid connection to the natural landscape. Our goal is to create spaces that reflect the context within which they are constructed, improve the quality of life of the inhabitants, and that will endure over time.
